Let’s Read (
10 minutes)
1. Pupils
read the text silently and find new words.
2. Pupils
list new words.
3. Teacher
explains these new words by giving clues to pupils.
4. Pupils
read the text aloud group by playing the Dragonball game.
a. Before the
lesson, teacher crumples the fourth paragraph of the Captain Malaysia text
(refer Appendix 2). Then, teacher crumples the third strip around the
crumpled fourth strip. Repeat the process for all the pages. Teacher uses
different coloured papers to make
2 sets of Dragonball.
b. During
the game, teacher gets pupils to sit in a circle with their own group
members. Teacher reminds pupils to
follow instruction or will be out of the group.
c. Teacher
starts by throwing the two Dragonballs at the same time to two groups. The
pupil who get it will peel the first layer of the Dragonball (page 1) and the
group will read the sentence aloud.
d. Teacher
provides support if necessary.
e. Then, the
pupil throws the Dragonball to another friend in the group. Repeat step c and
d. The group who finishes first is the winner and will get the first star for
the day.
4. If needed and if the time
allocated is not over, the teacher could
crumple the Dragonball again and repeat the steps above to ensure all pupils
have equal opportunities to play and read.
Let’s Recall
(15 minutes)
1. Teacher
distributes the Captain Malaysia mind maps (Appendix 3).
2. Without
referring to the text, pupils complete the mind map in their respective
groups.
3. Pupils
complete the picture by drawing their own Captain Malaysia.
4. Then,
pupils could proceed with completing the mind map.

their groups, pupils discuss the answer and show their answer.

steps 4 and 6.

provides immediate feedback for pupils’ answers.
8. The
group with the highest number of correct answers get the second star of the
day.

distributes reading comprehension handouts (Appendix 5) for pupils to answer
individually.

handouts could be pupils’ homework for today’s lesson if the time is not
